Weektopper van week 13: Nieuw: Beta 900/C39 assort...The system functions
The fuel system has 4 functions. The supply of fuel, regulating the correct quantity, controlling the correct injection timing and atomising the fuel.
Supply of fuel
Pump elements such as the cylinder and the piston are built into the pump housing. The fuel is pressurised when the piston is lifted by the cam. It is then fed to the injector.
Adjusting fuel quantity
Adjusting the fuel quantity is undertaken by a combination of the adjustment mechanism of the pump and the regulator. For Diesel engines the aspiration of the fuel is almost constant, irrespective of the speed of rotation and the loading. If the injection quantity is changed with the engine speed and the injection timing remains the same then the power and the fuel consumption will change. Because the engine power is almost directly proportional with the quantity of injected fuel, this is adjusted in line with the opening angle of the accelerator pedal.
